St. Francis of Assisi Marian Development Society

Vol.1 No.1 January, 1997

Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada

'MAKE ME A CHANNEL OF YOUR PEACE"

Established April 12,1995 to promote the educational, social and spiritual welfare of all people, of every race, color, and creed, in the Philippines and the third World.

The Society facilitates the transfer of supplies, tools and technology from Canada to needy people in the Third World to build a sustainable infrastructure to help people move from poverty to self-sufficiency.

The Society initially began its work in Bicol Province, Camarines Sur, Philippines. This is one of the poorest areas in the Philippines and is constantly plagued with typhoons, volcanic eruptions and floods. Industry is almost non-existent, but 85% of its children achieve college level education. By providing surplus recycled materials, we can assist the young people to create jobs and services.

The People of the Philippines Raise their Own Funds to Cover 95% of Shipping Costs

95% of the costs of shipping for the past four containers have been, and are now being raised and paid for, by the donations of the people of four provinces in the Philippines, through their sister Foundation, chaired by Sister Virgie, RVM. This gives them a sense of contributing as friends of the Society. They assist in the planning, and of selecting recipients of Canadian aid, which so far includes over 150 schools, colleges, universities, hospital, churches, seminaries and novice houses (orphanages).

Prayer of St. Francis

Make me a channel of your peace.

Where there is hatred let me bring your love.

Where there is injury your pardon Lord,

And where there's doubt,

True Faith in You.

0! Master grant that I may never seek,

So much to be consoled as to console,

To be understood as to understand,

To be loved and to love

With all my soul,

Make me a channel of your peace,

I is in pardoning that we are pardoned,

In giving to all men that we receive,

And in dying that we're born to eternal life.

Sponsor Needed for J.M.J. Bocolod Boys Home Borolod City, Negros Occidental

A home for 530 abandoned and orphaned boys was established by Fr.Gracian Murray, an American La Sallette Brothcr, in 1955 (He was ordained a priest later in life, at the age of 50). The Home has produced 11 ordained priests, with another 18 currently in the seminary. Father is now 77 years of age, and personally solicits all donations to keep the Home going. This would make a very worthy project for an organization interested in adopting his Home. For more information, contact Ted Malone or Choy Nasol, SFA-MDS at (604)420-3865.
